When I think about life, it is somewhat like learning how to ride a bike. “To keep your balance you must keep moving.” But here, I would like to reframe it to “In order to keep on going (carry on/ moving on), you need to keep your balance.” Balance in life’s perspective comprises of many different dimensions: Health & Fitness; Family; Spiritual; Career; Finance; Social; Personal Growth; Environment. Psychologically speaking, this is part of self-care routines and all of these dimensions plays a role in shaping our thought process and how we see life.
People say that “Life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs… but it’s your choice to either scream or enjoy the ride.”
To me, I don’t feel like agreeing to this quote because once you are on a roller coaster ride, your seatbelt is fastened and you do not have alternative route but to go on with the only designed path: up and down. From my perspective, I still see this life as riding a bike, you always have other alternative routes: whether to go North, South, East, West or uphill or downhill. We need to maneuver our direction according to what is the best for our life. Sometimes, you have to push yourself to take an uphill battle to enjoy the view and to assess your strength, and then enjoy the freewheel mechanism on your bike going downhill – this is the time you use to ‘recover.’ But bear in mind, although riding downhill is enjoyable, it could be dangerous too if we do not become cautious of our surrounding. Meaning here, we need to be careful when we are experiencing something good, blessed with happiness or achieve success (nikmat) in life because there is always elements of ‘evil eye’ (e.g jealousy). There are those individuals who might feel envious or threatened by your happiness (nikmat). So if you are not careful, your success could be your failure too.
“Secret to success is learning how to use pain and pleasure, instead of having pain and pleasure use you.” – Anthony Robbins.
